Public Art - The Basics for Artists and Creative Professionals

Bridging the Educational Gap for Artists At Lions & Rabbits Center for the Arts, we understand that artists are more than just their craft. They are multidimensional professionals capable of delivering significant value to their communities. However, a gap exists, between mastering your art and mastering the business of art. The currently available educational resources, while somewhat helpful, tend to fall short in addressing the complexities artists face in areas like project management, marketing and sales, and financial literacy. This is why workforce development is a key part of our mission. Beyond just helping artists access job opportunities, we work to equip the people in our arts community with the skills, insights, and resources they need to level up and build sustainable success.

Public Art Workforce Development

This season, we're launching a series of educational workforce development events to help the artists in our community develop the professional skills they need to learn, grow, and build sustainable careers.

Our first session on Tuesday, November 28th will cover all aspects of the public art process, from planning and logistics to proposals and project management.

Whether you're interested in murals, installations, or other forms of placemaking and public art, you'll walk away with a more comprehensive understanding of how to start and complete a public art project successfully.

If you can't attend this first event on November 28h, we'll be hosting 2 more in 2023:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 5th - Budgeting Your Projects
  • Tuesday, Dec. 12th - Marketing Yourself

Follow us on social media so you can be notified when sign-ups are open for those sessions.

And stay tuned for more of these workforce development events in January!

What to Expect:

  • Interactive Learning: You'll be actively participating in hands-on learning experiences and break-out group discussions.
  • Actionable Insights: Walk away with practical guidance tailored to your unique needs and challenges.
  • Collaborative Problem-Solving: Engage in dialogue, share experiences, and strategize solutions to common challenges in public art projects.
  • Networking Opportunities: Connect with fellow artists, potential collaborators, and industry professionals.

We will be offering refreshments and light snacks, or you can bring your own food/drinks.

Who Should Attend:

  • Emerging Artists: If you're starting out and looking to understand the work of Public Art, this is for you.
  • Established Artists: Even if you have experience, the collaborative nature of a Knowledge CafĂ© can offer new perspectives and solutions.
  • Creative Professionals: No matter what type of creative work you specialize in, there will be opportunities here for you to gain helpful insights.
  • Community Organizers and Advocates: Anyone invested in the development of public art projects in their community can benefit from this event.
  • Local Businesses and Organizations: If you are looking to collaborate with artists for public art initiatives and want to understand the artists' perspective, this will be very helpful for you.

Attendance is free, but you must RSVP in order to attend. Limited spots are available.

If you RSVP but end up not being able to attend, please notify us so we can make accommodations for someone else. Failure to do so may limit the possibility of future attendance at other upcoming workforce development sessions.
